How to Throw the PERFECT Cinco De Mayo Party

It’s super easy to throw an awesome Cinco de Mayo party. We’ve put together some tips to help you create the most authentic and fun mexican themed bash around.

You already know the date. May 5th. Duh! Jot down your invite list and send out the invitations. There are a lot of wonderful paperless invite options like Paperless Post, Evite and Greenvelope. Or you can snail mail it with cards from Zazzle, Shutterfly, Minted or the like. Remember to include all the pertinent information and an RSVP email address.

Cinco de Mayo parties are easy because they already come pre-themed. Think about whether you want to do a costume party or if you’d rather focus on food or games.

FOOD

Food is key and you want to prepare Mexican-themed fare like burritos, chimichangas, tacos, taquitos and quesadillas. It’s not easy to do all the food prep yourself so either ask your friends to pot luck it ,or feel free to order some stuff in. Putting together a chips and dips bar is an easy thing to do and will be a huge seller, especially if it’s paired with a wet bar.

Music is essential to any good party and consider whether you’d like to go live with a Mariachi band or simply put together a Mexican or current Mexican pop playlist. The internet is your friend here. Being your own DJ is easier than ever!

DECORATIONS

Bright colors are the way to go for this gig, so liven the place up with coasters and hats, flowers and streamers, festive napkins and tablecloths and hanging lights or torches.

Cactuses, sombreros and Maracas make great centerpieces. Your friends will be wowed by the presentation.

Add in some kid fun by playing pin the tail on the donkey or getting a pinata. Fake mustaches are fun and even the adults love those!
